Which Gaming Franchise Has the Largest Core Fanbase?

I'd have to go with Pokemon. While a new Mario game is something I look forward to for years, Pokemon is just an unstoppable force. Halo is a huge franchise but nothing compared to the sales machine Nintendo created with Pokemon.
