That man should really consider liquidating certain commodities and try to get a good path for his company that he would believe he could reorganize his manpower in a fun and profitable way of course before liquidation.
Management is key but the guys who do the job are what makes Japanese companies work, the successful guys have even the janitor in a cubicle from time to time and he's not cleaning.
I remember a tradesman told me a long time ago, when he was explaining to me the differences between a strait cutter, left cutter and a right cutter that this is how things are done. Then the first thing that came to mind is why not have all of them in one? He told me that if I could come up with something he'd buy it.
That's innovative, but accessibility (cost) is part of innovation.
