Can't dismiss this account, but it does smell suspicious.

The SCE service rep was pretty clear in reassuring me that they'd replace my broken console for the same model (hence entering the specific model as marked on the console serial number).

I actually waited a couple months before sending in the service request for my dead 60GB unit.

Box arrived late (no attempt was made by shipping to drop off the box; they just sent it back to distro and left it there). A second box was promptly shipped when I called the service department back and I had my replacement 60GB console after about a week.

Not sure how they're going to keep doing this for MoBos and cases that are no longer in production, but obviously they have a supply on hand, and the rate of failure is not high enough to exceed the demand.

Mine was clearly a refurb; it had the original protective plastic wrap on the casing they use to prevent shipping scratches.

But most importantly: this is the FIRST account I've heard about someone being told they couldn't get a replacement PS3 that matched what they were sending in.
