Well. There goes my dad's pension and retiement plan i'm sure.

Government loves to screw the little guy in situations like this.

Aside from screwing up the economy in the first place, how is the governments fault?

And sorry to hear about your dad.

The fact that they'll likely restructure the company by dropping the comapnies healthcare obligations and likely cutting pension in half or so.

I mean... the plans for it basically are "Lets restart the company by letting it out of it's debts."

Right, but then you blame GM for failing, or you blame the Union for strong arming GM into sign contracts that make them uncompetitive.

If not for the government, GM would just fold, and your dad would get nothing anyway.

I blame GM.  They put all their eggs in the wrong baskets when they were a big enough company to diversify.  They went all "Big SUVs" with less attention everywhere else and only worked on hybrids or other enviromental cars when the government was offering handouts.

That and there "Quanity not quality" manufacturing policies.... where the factories would compete against each other to see who got jobs... but on the basis of total parts manufactured... not total useful parts manufactured.

The managers did far more harm in wastefull work, useless work, matierals ruined and other stuff then anything else.
