It should.
The biggest vice my parents have is smoking. My dad saved a bunch of money. Lost a lot in the economic downturn but should still be fine. My dad's response to the whole thing was "It'll just be bad for you since you won't get any inhertiance."
Most other union workers aren't going to be so lucky though. Most union guys like to buy lots of expensive things because they deals they signed were supposed to take care of them well after they retired. I feel really bad for the guys who retired 10 years ago or so with no signs at all of this stuff happeneing.
