You're argument is that Japan, the only region in which MGS4 wont have increased the series userbase, would prevent the Xbox 360 from outselling the current PS3 sales in a reversed situation. But in doing so, you acknowledge that the difference in your head is only half a million in sales.
So given the proclivity for the series to expand based on its quality and the hype for MGS4, and the fact that the Xbox 360 has a demonstrated ability to sell over four million more copies of shooters than the PS3 in America alone, I'd say I'm being pessimistic if anything.
