I could shed tears over this blend of absolute beauty and epicness. Seriously, start a Skirmish in single player just to enjoy the scenery, because there's no way to absorb all the details when you're in a heated match. All the visual effects can sometimes be overwhelming when you're at the end of a match, and one area of the map becomes so saturated with different attacks and spells going off at the same time -- made my head spin. And believe it or not, the extraordinary visuals can make a huge difference in assessing a game like Demigod, especially with so many DotA fans wondering if they should upgrade to something new. Gameplay-wise, it's important to realize Gas Powered Games has made this sort of strategy game more accessible to gamers. While all the basic gameplay elements tie the two together, Stardock and GPG took what DotA started years ago and just ran with it, doing a bit of pruning along the way. The result is Demigod, a highly addictive multiplayer experience so immersive I had trouble putting it down long enough to write this review. As with Dawn of War II, staunch RTS traditionalists (purists, even) might not like what they see. But for gamers who aren't afraid of a little genre-ambiguity -- myself included -- Demigod is a worthwhile investment of both time and money. Congratulations, GPG and Stardock, on making such a drool-worthy title.
