^A nationalised public transport system would mean a reduction in public transport costs, and depending on funding, an improved service in many areas.
That would be one of the first things I'd do if I got into Government.
EDIT: Incidentally, if there is a lot of opportunity for setting up a business, like a supermarket or a bus service, what-have-you, you could probably quite easily get a grant to set up the business - you'd need to come up with a viable business model and find people with experience in order to get the grant.
I'd imagine that getting a grant would be easier than usual in the current economic situtation, particularly in an area like yours.
