I would not bomb them or send troops. The pirates live amongst civilians. If we bomb them, there would indubitably be collateral damage. I am uncertain if the current increase in warships will quash the threat of piracy in the region. Combating the threat will require more ships and increased coordination-for example, intelligence swapping-, and I am dubious about the various naval forces achieving such a high level of coordination. Effectively addressing this issue is quite the quandary for President Obama and the international community. In the short term, there are a few measures that can be taken: implementation of early warning systems on ships; increase in the number of crew members whose job is to detect potential threats; implementation of automated fire monitors at strategic locations on the ship. These measures will not end piracy, but they will allow ships to fend off the pirates while a long term solution is devised.
