Well how can you say the Xbox360 is underperforming? Without any spin here are the hard facts:

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 03rd Jan 2009 to 04th Apr 2009:

Console X360
America
1,332,713
Japan
147,531
Total Others
1,380,265

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 05th Jan 2008 to 05th Apr 2008:

Console X360
America
982,774
Japan
54,795
Total Others
869,656

So for the first 3 months:

The Xbox360 is up 35.60% YoY in America.
The Xbox360 is up 169.24% YoY in Japan.
The Xbox360 is up 58.71% YoY in Others.

Just if you are interested here are the YoY changes for the PS3:

For the first 3 months:

The PS3 is up 0.32% YoY in America.
The PS3 is up 3.29% YoY in Japan.
The PS3 is down 18.72% YoY in Others

The Xbox360 outsold the PS3 by 415230 units this year. This won't change till Sony drops the price of the PS3.

Talking about the predecessor, the Xbox360 already outsold the Xbox by 5 million units.

There is no way to spin that Sony is THE Loser this gen.

I think MS had bigger hopes when they cut the price of the 360 to $199.  They positioned it that they were going to take on the Wii.  Now they are crossing their fingers that they outsell the PS3 by 50k in March.  That's what I mean about under-performing.

I think SONY had bigger hopes when they released the PS3. They positioned it to take over the PS2 as the best selling console ever. Now they are crossing their fingers that they atleast make it profitable. Thats I what mean about under-performing.
