Easy there Squrriel (or is is squirrel, it's been so long since 6th grade, I don't recall), nowhere did I say I was stating facts. I am making observations, not making personal attacks, there is no need to be so defensive. Observation #1: In the past, Nintendo consoles and Nintendo games have catered to younger audiences #2: The current crop of Nintendo games (a majority) cater to a younger audience (or broader if you will) #3: Xbox/360 caters to an older audience #4: Sports games (games purchased by 15-40 year olds) sell poorly on the Wii yet have been very succesful on the 360 #5: "kiddie" games do not sell well on 360 (i.e. Viva Pinata) but do extremely well on the Wii (MP8, Pokemon, WarioWare, etc) One could come to a conclusion based on these observations (again, this isn't a fact) that the Wii sells to a younger demographic than the 360.
Take that as you will, but I am not defaming your precious Wii...maybe you can explain to me why Madden has sold 7 times more copies on the 360 than the Wii (could it be because Madden caters to an "older audience"?) And why Mario Strikers Charged can outsell Madden 2 to 1 (could it possibly be because it is "kid friendly"?) |
Well, my personal observations have been made at stores when browsing the games and I can honestly say that I have never thought I looked like such a child predator then when I was in the XBox 360 section. As much as people want to say that Sports games, Racing games and First Person Shooters sell to older gamers this really isn't true; there is always a large crowd of 11 to 15 year old boys drooling over the XBox 360 collection whilst calling the Wii kiddie. In contrast most of the people around the Wii are currently 20+ year old gamers who are bored with the "same old crap" that is being released on other platforms.
The fact is that your argument really isn't solid ... it is based entirely on your bias' on what demographics certain games and systems are being sold to and then justifying it with observations. Potentially game sales are lower on the Wii because many of the gamers are playing the virtual console games that remind them of when they were a child; you may not believe it but from what I have seen more 30+ year olds are interested in the virtual console than anyone else.
