Not really it is very experimental, very expensive and often fails.

Artifical insemination has to be done differently depending on the sepcies.

I think when it comes to elphants it's been done successfully less times then you can count on your hands.

It'd be a big gamble to try.  They'd be better off going for another straight elephant.
