Yeah, for really only three reasons.
1) How it's paid for.
2) There is no mechanism(to my knowledge) that rewards/penalizes those who take care of themselves... giving no incentives to live a healthy life outside of wanted to feel good, which honestly isn't enough for a lot of people.
If there was some sort of penalty that made people pay extra for healthcare problems they caused, or a tax rebate given to people who say go to 2 checkups a year and get credit for so many heatlhy activites.... I think it would make a lot of sense. Private company insurance companys have been doing this and getting great results.
3) I think it covers some elective stuff it shouldn't. For example things like Plastic Surgery based soley on psychological reasons are abused quite readily.
Really in the US though I think something like Healthcare would have to be managed on a state to state basis based on how freaking huge the country is. Otherwise the orginzational costs would be far too big.
