When the Nes launched, the market was dead due to low quality control, and lack of innovation. Not only did Nintendo bring quality and innovation (R.O.B. the video Robot would do your homework), they continue to bring fresh ideas to the table each generation.
At the end of the 16-bit era, I told myself I'd never buy another console. I was 18, and it was time to grow up....then the 64 hit. I bought it on day one. Near the end of the last generation, I figured it was time to stop gaming. I have a kid, and responsibilities now. "Video games wern't going to look or play much better", I told myself. At that time, I wasn't too impressed with what the 360 was doing back in 2005 (I did buy one in January this year though- it's awesome!). Nintendo's Wii captured my imagination, and made me excited again. My point is this: Not only did Nintendo save gaming (imo), they continue to utilize technology like analog, mode 7, motion control, and touch screens so that people like me who feel that the industry is getting stale NEVER give up their favorite hobby. (I forgive them for the Gamecube's "by the numbers" approach.)
