That is bullshit. Not every game runs on wine and there are a lot of problems with newer games. Of course if you don't mind missing sound/multiplayer or like games that crash a lot then you are good to go. I tried few games just to know will they work and oh my god that was terrible. GTA IV did not even start, crysis crashes in every 10 seconds, farcry 2 has very low framerate (60 on windows, max 10 on wine). Mass effect was pretty ok, but it had a lot of glitches and lower framerate than running on windows.

Games are also going to be slow and stuttering and crash prone on weirdly updated configuration of Windows, in conflicts with antivrus software or on old hardware. All those problems are fixable. So is Wine's compatibility.
The point was that only because a game was written for Windows does not mean you need Windows to run it. You only need a PC with an OS with an implementation of the required libraries, such as Wine aims to provide.
