And since people are mentioning anime, I don't think many recent shows are good enough to recommend, but Death Note is very good and anyone who hasn't watched it already should.

Never seen Bacanno, but I'm very meh on the rest. Especially Gurren Lagann---I thought it was overrated. Too much mecha and fanservice for my tastes. The only show with those elements that I can stand is Code Geass (and even with that, I'm only into it for Lelouch).

I do think the Reborn manga is pretty good, though.
