Seriously, I've put tons of hours into the pokemon games. I have Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, and Sapphire. Yes, I was obsessed there for a while. They're still some of the best RPG's I've played, despite the series having gone down in quality a bit in Ruby and Sapphire. I can't speak for Diamond/Pearl yet as I haven't played them.
So, people still buy them because they are fun and you get a lot of game for the price you pay.
