Yes they are. Use VLC Media Player, it's free. When the video is loaded up, go to
Video > Subtitles Track > [English]
The HD video isn't hard coded subtitles, the SD video is. Other than looking DAMN GOOD, it is good to be able to turn subs off if you like to make screen captures and make Wallpapers.
