I don't think people are seriously arguing that there would be NO video games if not for the NES. I think what people are saying is that video games would not be the huge, multi-billion dollar industry with hundreds of millions of customers today if not for the NES, and I think they're right. The NES saved the console gaming business, which is vastly larger than the PC gaming business.
