Umm, so you do think the ideas of god and religion can cause harm right? That's my point.

It can cause harm. Just like everything else in life. That doesn't make religion bad.

You're correct, the fact that it can cause harm isn't why religion is bad, it's bad because it can cause harm and is also unnecesary.

That's entirely your opinion, based on your experiences with atheism. I could say the exact same thing about atheism being unnecesary.

You can say the same thing about atheism? So what? My point was that it caused harm when you said it doesn't harm anything. Atheism can be harmful too.

Then what's the difference? If both can be used for wrong, then it doesn't mean one is better than the other. If you want to build some statistical evidence on the lives of atheists and their contribution to society, and if they create harm or help, I will gladly debate you on this, in light of the contributions Christians have made to society for the past 2,000 years.

Right here: "It's not like a belief in God actually hurts anyone, or anything, or is detrimental to ones health."

A belief in God doesn't hurt anyone, nor is detrimental to their health. That doesn't preclude the possibility that it can be used for malevolent purposes. I gave you the example of the Catholic church: Good religion gone wrong. The belief in God did not cause the abuses of the church, but the people in power caused the abuses.
