I think its the luck of the draw.
Mine is an Aug 07 model 20 Gig (HDMI rev) so now 20 months old and its never given me so much as a moments trouble.
I appreciate that lots of people have had endless trouble with the launch consoles but all my friends who have had theirs repaired (two) and all the rest (eight or so) have not had any problems since or ever respectively.
I'm sure that consoles are still breaking down but it would seem the problem is largely sorted.
If mine RROD's I'll just get it repaired or if it is after the three years buy an Arcade bundled with a game I want and swap the HDD onto it.
