I'm ashamed to admit i've never heard of Dark Shadows. After digging around I found out there was 1,245 episodes from 1966-71. After watching a small part of the pilot episode on youtube I can see it is definitely something I can (sorry!) um...sink my teeth into(couldn't resist!)...

Does the story continue for the entire run or is it broken up with one off episodes where the underlying plots still bubble away? 1245 episodes is a hell of a lot! Thanks for the find, by the way.

 

You're welcome.  They used to show it (the original one) on Sci-Fi Channel in the mornings.  Like a lot of soap operas, it follows the same pattern of building you up to a cliff hanger and then it is time for the next day's show where they usually leave the exciting thing that was happening at the end of the last one to percolate for a bit.

However, there have been tapes and dvds released over the years that only contain the show's creepier moments on them.  Examples would be The Best of Dark Shadows and The Best of Barnabas Collins.

Also, imo the show's music was quite wonderful.
