There are still an ass load of people still playing Halo 3 a year and a half after it released. Hell, there are still quite a few people playing Halo 2 online. What makes you think it is diminishing? ODST will probably be the second best selling game this year on hd consoles. Just because you do not like it, does not mean others don't like it either.

 

It sold well because it was hyped to no end (There was Halo MOUNTAIN DEW, c'mon...)

 

Once that wore off, the game didn't really have legs.  ODST will probably sell well... but I think Halo's brandpower diminishes as people are exposed to other (read: better) games.
