Looks like their citation for it is that recent Financial Times article which for now is the number that most official business seems most warm towards since nobody seems to track "Others" as much as ioi tries to. Seems like its just a case of we all know that all 3 systems have sold more than that article says but the sources the article used are all presumed to be accurate and official so thats the number that will stand for now. So at least for now whoever made the change was smart its got its necessary citation I dunno that I'd think it was SCEE that made the change though Microsoft articles are popular wiki targets could have been anyone. As noted it didn't change the Wii or PS3 articles I'd bet it more likely to be someone who is not a fan of anything Microsoft does in general. Just glancing over the edits too it seems like that spot has been having a bit of contention over this article, vgcharts numbers, vgchartz numbers, and Microsoft's shipped numbers for that particular spot.
