pretty much what i was about to answer... with the exception that I would have pound sony for the damage they did in term of quality in the VG market... I don't deny they pulled out some great title and moved the console business in the massmarket but at what cost???? by flouding the channels with a disproportionate amount of crap... with amazingly missguiding marketing strategies and lowered the average standard of quality in the video game industry......
before Sony's PS you had less games less customers but probably a higher average quality in percentage.... now it's the opposite.... best example for that change... the death of Dreamcast because it had arguably no games.... yeah no crappy games but the few we had were awesome.... and I'm missing that time... when we had less games but actually more effort put into it to make them worth the price tag....
