I think it would be beneficially to supplement this definition with some examples
1 1 2 2 2 2 3 4 4 4 4 7 7 8 9
Here the median is represented by the first #4 because it is eigth in line. It is halfway in a list of 15 figures.
The mean here is 4 as well (sum of all figures divided by the number of figures ie 15)
In this line
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 3 4 7 11 20
Here the median is 1
the mean here is 4.26
(I'm sure you understand already. This is just to clarify for others.)
