It's unfair to not accept GOW =/
MGS has a plot that's too long, and too complex (and many argue that it's not in the good way).
GOW is simple (spoilers):
Kratos devoted his entire life to war symbolized by giving his life to its God and permanently welding a weapon on his body.
Kratos' wife who wanted him to stop waging war and come home to take care of his daughter is symbolically killed by him.
Kratos becomes plagued with guilt and the inability to change the past and his eternal guilt is symbolized by the cremated ashes on his skin.
Even though he has become a ghost of his former self as Ares wanted, he still has some human emotions left in him and undergoes an odyssey to get revenge and undo what his actions.
He finally kills the god of war, but tragically learns that no matter how much you atone or do, your past can never be changed and your guilt can never go away (Kinda like the Middle Eastern concept of Salvation vs. Indian concept of Karma).
Because he cannot change his past, and its consequences, he begrudgingly embraces them and becomes the monster he has been morphed into. Forever (?) the God of War.

Is it deep and complex? No. Is it a simple, interesting, and meaningful? Yes. The entire game has 3 major characters.
It sounds and feels like a typical Greek tragedy, and it has lots of modern action, muscle, sex, and blood.
If they try to push this to the audience of "Gladiator" it can be profitable. They can cut costs if they utilize the art direction and style of the first game, where they have still illustrations that are occasionally animated with CGI:

If GOW isn't acceptable then I'll say Socom (as you can put any story in there). If Heavy Rain's story does turn out good, then that can be used.
