In my opinion, comparing a handhold device to a console is not fair. A household would probably just get 1 console, but they will have to get 1 handhold per child.
Anyway, I would have to say that it is hard to consider the PSP a failure with all that it has done, but with respect to its ambition which was to steal the handhold market from nintendo, it is a failure. Depends on how you look at it I guess.
