Especially considering such a high ratio has almost never occurred ("almost" only because I'm sure there is at least one rule breaker somewhere in VG history). Have you ever thought that the success of massive franchises like FF and GT might come from their ability to sell to many different kinds of people? In other words, they sell to the existing userbase even if they are not hardcore FF/GT fans, or even fans of other parts of the genre. Why else would they be called "mainstream" franchises? |
I would think that as a net result of Final Fantasy VII's launch in Japan that the install base of the PS1 doubled there. It would be harder to determine how much FFX boosted PS2's sales because of all of the other games like GTA III and MGS 2 that released at about the same time, but I would think FFX easily accounted for 1 million PS2's being sold.
Heavens to Murgatoids.
