I would say it's like having two restaurants. One restaurant is charging $7.50 for a McDonald's type value meal. The other restaurant is charging $10 for 7 course lobster and Kobe steak dinners. Then, you have people the restaurant serving lobster and steak is too expensive and cheering for the other restaurant to win. They feel better when they hear more people are going to the restaurant charging $7.50 for a McDonald's value meal. Those same people try to talk up the value meal as the best thing in the world and what is "needed". The things the restaurant provides in the $10 is just dismissed as "not needed". Those people won't stop. They will only take the other restaurant's offering at $7.50 or a value meal AND lobster/Kobe steak dinner at $8 to temporarily stop the groans. Personally, I just don't understand that behavior. I'm trying to see the logic in it and I'm drawing a blank. It just seems to be "trendy" to not like Sony and the PS3. I guess the viral marketing MS paid for was worth it. Sony should try harder than giving the most powerful gaming console on the planet with features that would run you over $1,000 for just $400? They are currently providing the best exclusive gaming line up available with the best graphics and audio for the past year (most likely to be 2 years after this one), but they should try harder? You have scratch resistant game and movie discs because of that company, ya know. MS just has a one console generation strategy with the money they lost so far on the X360. Sony has at least a two console generation strategy with the Cell and Blu-ray. That's a huge difference! MS and Sony would be LUCKY to break even THIS console generation. Yes, Sony is 3rd so far. Of course, it already started out in 2nd place (people seem to completely disregard that fact). Some people, also, seem to forget the PS3 is suppose to have a 9+ year lifecycle compared to 7 years for the X360. That would mean the X360 has 3+ more years on the market and the PS3 has 7 more years. ANYTHING can happen within that amount of time.
