Final Fantasy XII on PS2 sold 2.42 million copies in Japan and GT4 sold well over a million in Japan. Even if half those people that plan to buy those games for the PS3 already own a PS3 in Japan that still means that FFXIII and GT5 have the potential to at the very least move 1.5 million new PS3s in Japan during the holiday season. Throw in another 1 million for Versus XIII and you still have the PS3, at the least, having an advantage of 5.5 million to less than 1.5 million, at most for the 360 in Japan. And the two Final Fanatasies and GT5 aren't the only games coming to the PS3 over the next year and a half. There will also be new games from Hideo Kojima, Team ICO's game, probably a new Yakuza game from Sega (and the latest one has sold 2x as many copies of the any of the 360's games there), Ninja Gaiden Sigma II, Eternal Mana Rossaria, Tales of Vesperia PS3 and probably Star Ocean 4 PS3 and The Last Remnant PS3. And the PS3 version of any big Western multiplat game that sees release in Japan will most likely continue to sell much better there than the 360 version as will Japanese multiplat games: GTA IV sold more than twice what the 360 version did in Japan, SFIV PS3 sold 2x times as many copies as the 360 version, and RE5 sold 4x as many copies as the 360 version. |
Woh, that is some crazy logic there buddy. First of all, the ps2 install base was over 20 million units when those games came out. It's very different to buy a game when you already have the system, but when you have to throw in another 400 dollars to buy a new system to play a game, you are going to turn off about 95% of your fans. I think 5% is the most your going to get that are going to jump into buying a new system.
The reason ps3 games sell better in japan is because it has a larger user base, same reason why 360 games sell better in America. I don't think a lot of people on this site really understand that concept...
