Why would they pull out of Japan? They've increased brand/market awareness and have notched up some decent titles - sure they're miles behind but I would imagine MS weren't expecting anything less.
The point is they've pushed the brand and have shown enough success outside Japan to get developers attention.
If nothing else they will likely stay just to remain a thorn in Sony's side and to try and slow the PS3 down by competing for titles, etc. as they have been.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
