 Had you ever heard of Venturer? I agree that the mass market will accept a next gen DVD less quickly than the accepted DVD, but I think the rate will get faster and faster since you almost have to try and buy a non-HD TV these days. 

 

So? Even when HD-TV adoption reaches near 70% i'd be surprised if Blu-Ray surpassed DVD so long as it costs more.  You didn't even need a special TV for DVD.  Seriously it took DVD forever.  A format really needs to innovate to take over.  Blu-ray offers the common consumer next to nothing for 20 dollars more.
