Well, the way it should play is by avoiding the 1080i/p resolutions. If the game had a gamebreaking bug then that'd make sense, but something as easy as changing your resolution? Oh my...
You're right. Heck, why should I have to use a spoon to eat my cereal, it should just appear in my stomach. Why should I have to mute somebody in-game who's clearly being a jackass despite it taking just a few seconds to do?
Anyway, I personally didn't care for both games so it's not like it really matters.
