That article is very, very weak.

The first thing to consider is that Microsoft is breaking into Sony's market, and they're doing an amazing job.  Just one generation ago, Microsoft's console was selling a tiny fraction of Sony's console and Sony had all of the big exclusives.  Now, Microsoft is outselling Sony, got most of Sony's exclusives to be multiplat or MS exclusives, and is winning the online-content war which is more relevant today than the format war.

There are warning signs all over that article -- a whole bunch of PS3 apologizing.

 - The PS3 would have outsold the 360 had it not been delayed

 - If you align launches, PS3 sales are actually good (hint: publishers don't align launches so this is irrelevant)

 - The PS3 is the complete solution

 - PS2 sales are maintaining their pace (uh, no).

It's a matter of perspective.  This guy wants to believe the PS3 is secretly doing really well when you look at it from the correct angles.  Not that the PS3 was a huge blunder that cost Sony their huge lead in the console market.
