Just to lend you some perspective on purchasing games for PS2, over the past 2 weeks I've purchased:
Okami;
Star Ocean 3;
Tales of Legendia;
Dragon Quest VIII;
Dark Cloud 2;
FFX;
FFXII;
Tales of the Abyss;
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness;
Persona 3:FES;
Rogue Galaxy;
FFIX (PS1 game);
FFVIII (PS1 game); and
Chrono Cross (PS1 game)
14 games for about $100 and a trade in of 3 of my games (LittleBig Planet, NHL 09 and Resistance 2). So I guess that'd be around $200, but I had avoided purchasing greatest hits versions which may have increased the cost by quite a bit. Also, my list is almost exclusively RPG's which generally have a greater residual value than other genres. Games like Ratchet and Clank and Jak would run you about $10 each. Conversely, $200 would get you about 3 new 360 games (a couple extra if some were older or used).
If RPG's and adventure games are your thing, you really can't beat the value you'll get with a PS2.
Plus in a few years time, the 360 will be much more affordable and will no doubt have a fantastic library (it's already on an excellent pace).
Ultimately it's your decision, weigh the pros and cons, and make your decision. Are the two terms 'new' and 'new-to-you' any different? In my opinion, the PS2 is truly something that shouldn't be missed by any RPG fan.
