Here's an idea.

What about a JRPG in which a psychologically disturbed middle-aged woman who goes in a coma.  While in this coma, she has to fight hallucinations and 'bosses' that are personified hallucinations of her inner most fears.  She starts as a child in the beginning of the game and as the games progresses, she becomes older and her warped imagination and personality flaws become more apparent not thru her actions in the halliculations but her recollections of her childhood, adolscence and young adulthood.

Sad thing is.. I made this up on the fly and it's more creative than most JRPG's.

Actually, you just ripped off the plot of American McGee's Alice...

And Eternal Sonata, in a manner of speaking.

I also detect a trace of Silent Hill II, now that I think on it.

Since we're doing this, "bosses that are personified hallucinations of her inner most fears" sounds alot like Persona 4.

God, next people will be saying there's a JRPG where the main character is a Gorilla..

well there was a game where you played as various creatures, evolving yourself as you see fit.  Your damage and stats were based on how you evolved, so I could think of it as an Action JRPG.  Just not sure it was actually developed in Japan.

-grabs loaded revolver-

-turns safety off-

-points at forehead-

I'm about to do it..

Persona 3
