How about a JRPG where you destroy the world?

even thats been done

What rpg has done that before?

yeah, I want to play it!!

shin megami tensei: nocturne. You don't really destroy it but you compete to be top dog in the dog-eat-dog world that the world becomes, after it ends right at the beginning lol, where only raw power rules.

Also look into shin megami tensei; digital devil saga 1 and 2 for another unique approach where the characters are essentially in "purgatory" and must cannibalize each other to get to "nirvana" (heaven). Then in part 2, they learn that "heaven" isn't all it was hyped up to be. These games are truly unique and I feel bad for jRPG fans who missed out.

You had to save the world in Digital Devil Saga 2 though.

In a way yeah but somehow it felt more selfish than altruistic unlike most jRPGs. I don't really know how to explain it. It kinda felt like Serph and co. were more interested in saving themselves but had to carry the world as a by-product. This is sorta unlike other jRPGs where the MCs seem to care a lot about people they don't know. DDS takes a more "human nature" approach but I do prefer DDS1's story for this reason. It's kinda an incomplete experience though if one doesn't play DDS2
