The interesting thing is that the focus seems to be on AI and physics, generally accepted as the PS3's greater strengths, but AI and physics really aren't what I'd consider to be two of the greater strengths of the Cry Engine used in Crysis and Warhead. AI was actually one of the more faulty aspects of the game. Regular enemies had inexplicably enhanced senses but would respond unnaturally in many engagement scenarios. Physics actually felt considerably floaty given the degree of realism given to the rest of the game. Those were two areas I felt KZ2 accomplished better, which seems to support that a properly optimized physics engine for the PS3 utilizing the SPEs should yield better results. |
Crytek are like id post Doom in some ways IMHO, great engine, but they seem to struggle to actually make the best of it themselves.
Everything was in there, but they failed to utilise it as well as they could. Warhead I thought was better (not that Crysis was bad, it just didn't make the most of what it had) and was clearly built on the feedback on Crysis.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
