...which is why the PS3 and Xbox 360 have little appeal to new markets. The barrier to entry is too high because Sony and MS have made their consoles geared towards the relatively few people who are hardcore shooter fans.
Why would a shooter that only has three buttons and one stick (Move+Aim on one stick, Fire, Jump, Change Weapon) be any less fun if the game engine was the same? But it would be a lot more accessible.

Firstly, you can't move and aim with one stick. You need two, or at least a stick and a D-Pad.

And I would argue that lack of control complexity would force the developer to focus on the gameplay and level design to make the game fun.
