Also... Thanos said Champion was almost as strong as the Hulk?

The only thing I remember him saying is that he was like the Hulk if your talking about when he nabs the power gem.

Thanos was like surprised with the power of his blows, instantly comparing him with the Hulk (not the exact words, but the idea is the same).

I just mean to say that Thanos thinks Champion and Hulk are of the same power level (even if Champion was then in possession of the Power Gem).

What he says was "As he gets angry his power grows, I think this would be like fighting an extraterrestial Hulk."

Or something like that.  I think it was just inregards to the Champions strength rising with anger.  Not a comparison in power so much as a comparison in fighting techniques.

Also while Champion did have the Power Gem he didn't know how to tap into it's power... it was Thanos making him angry that made him more powerful.  Which is amusingly why Thanos won the fight... by making his opponent so powerful it screwed up the planet.

 

i tend to think that thanos was actually comparing power. but i dunno.

i think that the power gem came into play even if Champion wasn't aware of it. when he fought she-hulk, she suggested that he take off the gem to make things fair. she-hulk won easily because Champion had become very dependent on the Power Gem.
