If the aim of the rant was to get people's attention -- then it certainly accomplished that objective.

You cannot get people to think if you cannot get them to hear what you are saying.

And maybe she was saying that if video games ever want to be taken seriously, they need to stop pandering to the lowest common denominator. It would be as if all there were to movies was teen-slasher films. Those exist, but there is so much more.

Right now, if someone tries something different, (i.e., Wii Music) or something that appeals to a different demographic (i.e., some of the Ubisoft software), they are derrided or even told they are "ruining" gaming (i.e., Wii Fit).

So while some might quibble about the forum, this is the place where those who make the decisions about what types of game to develop gather. So where else would someone want to comment on the choices made by the industry.

Video games cannot have it both ways. They cannot make games that predominantly appeal to one demographic and then complain when they are not given universal respect from the general public.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
