I don't feel the Blu-Ray player helped Sony tremendously, in fact I think it hurt them severely since it has kept the price of the system hundreds of dollars more than it could have been. I think Sony's focus on making the PS3 a "mighty home electronics product" as Waga put it is what cost them a lot of potential marketshare and I think that until they realize that, things are only going to remain the same with the PS3. It's not too late for them to turn the PS3 around but time is definitely running out for them and they don't have the luxury and can't afford to get themselves into a delicate "balancing act" as Kaz Hirai put it in order to help other Sony divisions push Blu-Ray. |
I did mention the blue-ray made the ps3 more expensive but lets say it didn't have a blue-ray player. Is not like it would cost $200. It would still have the same amount of games or basicalll alot less games then the 360 and to me that is what truly matters. Even if the PS3 was $300-$400 is not like it would have had mgs4 or ff13 etc to all of sudden have huge sales hike over the 360 and Wii. Obviously there is alot of assuming going around but in the end I think Blue-ray helped the ps3 because quite frankly in the past year it hasn't had the content to get people to buy it. People pay good money for good content which is why the 360 got such a small price drop as they knew people just wanted a price drop but that the BIG games for this holiday would be enough to keep the price high enough and make some good money. Games=Money and both the Wii and 360 currently have it while the ps3 hopefully soon will. I just don't see how duo marketing hurts SONY as all three systems usually market multiple things they have to offer like the 360 and xbox live or Nintendo and their first party games etc .
