Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like you're suggesting JRPG's that follow that one specific formula are the only one's that should be considered classic. If that's what you're really saying, I'm going to have to say that you are indeed wrong. The genre has come so far and evolved so much that any number of things could be deemed classic -- things like turn-based combat, 2D sprites, or even certain story telling styles. Now, keep in mind that I do agree that Dragon Quest VIII is a classic-styled JRPG and a great one at that. I would even go as far as to say it's one of the best on the PS2; however, it's not the only type of RPG that could be considered classic, nor are JRPG that debuted before the SNES.
