| Rath said: The reason why Halo 3 is less popular here is because a lot of the people here simply didn't buy into the hype as much - the demographics of this site aren't the same as the mainstream gamer. Generally anybody who is willing to go on a forum dedicated to videogames knows quite a lot about them and realises that Halo 3 isn't actually the greatest FPS ever. |
This sums it up really well.
Halo is popular among casuals. It's obviously a good quality game, but as it became more and more popular, it became a fad. It's a good game to get just for to play online with people you know since so many people are likely to have it also. It has every multiplayer feature that a console can have (co-op, split, etc) so that just helps it out even more as a game to get just for playin with others. I know many people that have Halo 3 but barely do any gaming at all.
Like Rath said, it's not VGchartz, it's anyone that'd visit a gaming forum - they're more informed about what's out there. They're don't rely on word-of-mouth as much as a casual gamer would.
As for WoW, some people seem to avoid it simply because they seem to think that it'll suddenly turn them into a nerd er somethin, which is why you see the "WoW is for losers" responses. Any game will make you look like an addicted no-life if you play it enough. I guess you can say that it's the opposite of Halo - one is known for being popular among casuals, while is the other being the choice of some super hardcore nerds, but that can be said about both. I know a few casuals that have WoW. I also this one guy that I met off a different MMORPG that moved onto WoW specifically to stalk a girl and her new e-boyfriend after he looked them up on some gaming site and found out they were playing it......he admitted to taking screenshots in both games to keep as "records". It's one thing to hear about all the creepy WoW stories, but to actually meet one of those types.....yes, it's awkward =/
Besides that, there's the fees......some people on here are already paying for Live and probably Netflix too, so I doubt they'd wanna add more to that. I actually didn't buy WoW because of the fees.
