And @ MikeB: I seriously doubt this engine will lead to more exclusives for PS3. It would be most helpful to those "low level" developers who you suggested were having trouble with cell development, but 29 million is a number they just can't ignore.
I am more referring to companies which are interested in creating the most impressive games they can, like was for example the case with regard to Metal Gear Solid 4 development. I am also thinking about timed exclusives, any PS3 game can be ported to the 360 afterwards with making a sacrifices here and there, it's just important this isn't the case beforehand during the initial development phase.
There will always be projects which are less ambitious and thus very well suited for simultaneous development, some games designed even with the for example the Nintendo Wii or PS2 in mind. |
Creating landmark games takes alot of money, and money is something most devs dont have especally now.

The gaming industry is big business, top low-level programmers are expensive and sadly few due to the advocacy of very high level programming and education, but middleware solutions are often affordable for smaller projects. Maybe CryEngine 3 will be affordable to smaller companies as well, that would take care of the low-level technical talent issue and then just requires talented level design and asset production (like with regard to Bioshock).
Small companies on very low budgets can also achieve amazing results. For example the team behind Super Stardust HD is tiny, yet they produced great results doing also the low level stuff themselves in a short amount of time.
