Yes, but why was it reclassified? Was it for valid scientific reasons, or political pressure? Is it even possible to have a scientific debate on it anymore? It was reclassified once religious groups stopped having as much influence upon the process as they once did. In order for it to be considered a mental illness it would have to cause either distress or disability, I know enough gay people to know that it causes them neither - at least in a culture which is accepting of them (I live in a country lucky enough to generally be one of the few that is).
In fact same with the entire transgender thing, it causes no distress or disability and as such cannot be considered a mental illness. One of the things that makes me proudest of my country is the fact that we were the first in the world to ever to elect a transexual member of parliament.
