The only reason homosexuality isn't STILL considered a form of mental illness is because it upsets gay people.
I'm sure the cure isn't much more complicated then the hormonal treatments they give someone who wants a sex change. We just need to examine the chemical and hormonal differences between the brain of a gay man and a heterosexual and treat it accordingly. In the end, I'm sure it can be treated just like any other form of mental illness.
