No it was put there because if they said it was a mental illness they'd have to deal with all kinds of bullshit. And that is the problem with politicans these days. They aren't willing to put up with bullshit from topics involving peoples morals so they either do what the small complaining group wants because the rest of us just live our lives, or they don't do anything to avoid it all together.

Like I said, it's the little angry groups that make the changes while most just try to ignore it. But eventually we'll find ourselves living in a world far different than what we would like and at the point it will have been too late.

And again, if you want to be gay that's fine, but there is no reason why you can't go about life as normally as anyone else, keep your personal life to yourself, it's really not that difficult.

And now, I am officially leaving this topic as it is quite pointless.

Swing and a miss. Up until the DSMIV there was a diagnosis for gay as a mental disorder. it was not political pressure as the Americian Psychiatric Association is not a government agency. That would be the NIMH. The members of the APA found that based on research it was not acutally a mental illness at all. Science is a bitch that way.

Keeping the fact that you are gay to yourself is not such a black and white issue. That means no public displays of affection with their partners. This is an extra set of rules enforced only on them. That mkes them a second class citizen. Having seperate sets of laws for a specific group is never a good idea. It just leads to mass riots against an obvious injustice.
