"Not really knowing at the time how to utilise a CD add-on their gaming console, Nintendo turned to a well know electronics company called Sony. Sony and Nintendo formed a deal to work together and Sony was given complete access to all the specs and goings on of the SNES to develop a CD based add-on for Nintendo. Funny enough, the development code name of the add-on was "Playstation"." http://www.gamingobsession.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=403&Itemid=1 also another limk for more information. http://books.google.com/books?id=OZFuS-kUUwsC&pg=PA177&lpg=PA177&dq=sony+develops+cd+drive+for+snes&source=bl&ots=FoHX_qDjDL&sig=arL9FXMLCEHl_vWtNH7GZfweM9g&hl=en&ei=cQfLSan6PInYsAO_18G4Cg&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result

Yep, that pretty much proves that SONY gave us the PSOne. Nintendo asked SONY to build it, and Nintendo later abandoned it. So SONY decided to marketed the product themselves.
